Whitside German Shepherds
_ There is no other breed thought of as fondly as the German shepherd. Once you've lived with a German shepherd you will always want one in your life. German shepherds are highly intelligent dogs and one of the most versatile of the herding breeds. They are used in herding sheep, search and rescue, bomb and drug detection, and assistance and therapy dogs. As well, they often are wonderful loyal family companions.
As a Northern Michigan breeder, we've been raising and showing AKC registered German shepherd dogs and puppies since 1990. With limited breeding of only one to two litters per year we've bred and showed top winning Select American and Canadian Champions. Breeding good dogs for good people is our motto.
First and foremost, the dog has to be functional. Structure and movement must conform to written standard. Our dogs are known for their smooth flowing sidegait. As well, the dog has to have good health and temperament to live a long productive life to be an asset to their owners and family.
Although we are known for our beautiful sable German shepherds, we breed black and tan (sometimes red) too. When you have sable color in your breeding program, more often than not they just turn out the best ones in the litter. Typically, we will breed sable to black and tan and have litters with both colors.
